ReplyDeleteThis looks like an elaborate campus. I guess the tobacco industy is still strong despite efforts to
whoops...my comment was not finished. I was saying that there have been good efforts to get people to quit smoking.
ReplyDeletePat, Durham was "built on tobacco money", but that industry is shriveling up. Several cigarette factories which had been a big part of industry here have closed their doors. Many of the old tobacco warehouses have been converted to condos, restaurants, and offices, and it's really a beautiful area now and a big boost to downtown.
DeleteSo don't buy stock in the tobacco industry. Folks who still smoke are beginning to look like dinosaurs!

ReplyDeleteAs I said to Pat, up above, many of the old tobacco warehouses have been converted to condos, restaurants, and offices. There's even a mini-version of the "riverwalk" with a waterway running through the area pictured above. It's a beautiful area now and a big boost to downtown.

I really need to head to Durham. I know that Duke University was Trinity College a long time ago and that the tobacco giant James Duke gave his money to the Trinity when he died and it became Duke University.
