Down to the Jordan River

The walkway down to the Jordan was interesting, and the sky was gorgeous. The temperatures on the day we were down in the desert region of Israel topped 110, so a dip in the water sounded refreshing.


The Jordan River we read about in the Gospel bears little resemblance to the Jordan River we saw on our time in Israel. Factors such as the use of water for irrigation have turned the flowing river into a muddy trickle. Only one of our group was intrepid enough to fully immerse in the water, although most of us got our toes wet.


The Jordan River - at least at this point - is quite narrow, and it would be easy enough to swim across to the nation of Jordan, where pilgrims were also renewing their baptismal vows.

    What a shame that the water was so muddy. I have seen people dipping there. I guess they were very brave!

    110 is hot indeed. That part of the world always looks so hot and dry. I hope you had a pool where you were staying.

    I must say I was rather surprised to see and read about the River and how much it's changed. I had a completely different idea in my head.

    The river looked very muddy but the weather was beautiful! I don't think I'd dip any part of my body in that water however.

    My mama got baptized in the Jordan River when she went to Israel. It doesn't look very appealing!

    This place is very pretty! I wouldn't imagine it like this. 110 sounds crazy. I have experienced similar temperatures in Egypt (and well, in Vegas and Arizona).

    Oh, that's too hot to be outside! I'm thinking of the verse "Jordan River is chilly and wide" but it doesn't hold true here.
