Montezuma Castle

Another dip into the archives...

According to Wikipedia, "Montezuma Castle National Monument protects a set of well-preserved dwellings located in Camp Verde, Arizona, which were built and used by the Sinagua people, a pre-Columbian culture closely related to the Hohokam and other indigenous peoples of the southwestern United States, between approximately 1100 and 1425 AD. The main structure comprises five stories and about 20 rooms and was built over the course of three centuries."

  3. We visited the very similar Mesa Verde National Park in SE Colorado. It was amazing to see the cliff dwellings carved into the walls of a deep gorge. It must have made the ancient ones feel safe to live so protected that way.

  30. Three centuries is a long time so the inhabitants must have been fairly successful. If only there was more information. History is a fascinating subject for study don't you think?
