A peek behind the scenes...

Again quoting from PAFA's website, "Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is refocusing on its core mission to tell the story of American art and to provide arts education for the full lifecycle of the artist. Our blueprint for the future includes a dynamic new vision of PAFA as the center of an 'arts ecosystem' that will inspire the next generation of artists and art lovers. Today’s rapidly changing and increasingly complex higher educational environment requires PAFA to evolve and adapt its educational goals. Although we are incredibly proud of our time as a degree-granting institution and the achievements of our distinguished faculty, staff, students, and graduates, PAFA will wind down its Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degrees, graduating its final class in 2025... Alumni of PAFA include Mary Cassatt, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, William Glackens, Barkley L. Hendricks, Violet Oakley, Louis Kahn, David Lynch, and Henry Ossawa Tanner."

These pieces are plaster casts of many classical works of art and have been used as a means of educating students on form and sculpture. This part of the museum is generally not open to the public, but we were fortunate to be able to see them while on tour.
