Old San Juan: Pigeon Park

I must admit I'd want to wrap these kids up in bubble wrap smeared with a thick coating of disinfectant before allowing them such close personal contact with the pigeons, but perhaps I'm just letting my inner squeamishness out to play! At any rate, they had lots of fun!

  6. Hello, Sue! I know what you mean about being in such close proximity with pigeons. My daughter calls them "flying rodents". The children did look like they were having fun, however. I just hope they washed their hands afterward! ;)

  8. Yah, I am not sure I could let my kids play with pigeons, but I bet they had a blast. Sometimes we just have to back off as parents. I bet this will be one of there favorite memories. It great that you captured it.

  10. I have never heard of a Pigeon park, I think I have one, I started feeding the little birds, then the quail, then the doves, and then followed the pigeons. Got to be to much, so now I only use a feeder and limit it to one spot.

Thanks for hosting, hope you have a great week!

  11. Like them in pictures, but pigeons kind of creep me out, germ wise...but that's more about my issues than facts.

  12. I agree. They are poopy birds but you got some good pictures!

  14. Great photos... I have five white doves visit my garden daily. I've fed them for over a year now and would miss them terribly if they didn't visit.
I have no idea who owns them, but obviously they like my top grade sunflower heart seeds!
Thanks for hosting... waving from a snowy Bonnie Scotland!

  17. That is a Lot of pigeons! When I was little (early '60s), the family vacationed near Atlantic City, and on that famous Boardwalk, there were pigeons everywhere - and we fed them Spanish peanuts that Grandpa bought at the nearby Peanut store. They ate from our hands and none of the kids got sick. That was then :)

  35. It does look like fun! As long as their parents make them wash their hands afterwards, they'll be fine.

  36. I'm afraid that's too many birds for my comfort zone. Nice images though.

  37. Thanks for the link-up Sue. I don't like to see so many pigeons. if only people would take an interest in wildlife rather than "tamelife".

  40. These are awesome but scary at the same time. It's like going into the Lego store at the mall and watching all the kids from all over dive into the buckets of lego's and I can just see the germs spreading. lol.

    Have a great week!

  41. they are indeed having fun with the pigeon :). but it can be a bit tricky sometimes for the kids who are afraid of them..

  42. I love watching birds...from a distance. I had a pigeon land on my head when I was in NYC; it freaked me out a little.

  44. Way back when I was a child in rural Washington State we played in pastures, chicken coops and barns (much to the irritation of our mothers who were trying to keep us clean) -- I can assure you that decades later I am alive and well and I suspect the memories these wee ones have of playing with the birds will be with them for decades as well. . .

  45. Oh, I remember visiting this park when I was little and we had so much fun feeding the pigeons/doves.
Thank you for bring such a nice memory back to me.

  46. They are fabulous shots, but yeah - agreed. I don't think I'd get too close either. And if my kids touched, they would get a bottle of that hand sanitize poured all over them.

  47. My skin is crawling just looking at the kids with the pigeons.

  48. I am from Puerto Rico and remembered how much my siblings and I loved this park when we where kids (except when we were pooped by the pigeons, happened very often). I will think it twice before going now.

  49. Pigeons are not my favourite bird and they make so much mess! However, little kids just like the have fun and you've captured this well.

  50. This reminds me of all the pigeons in Home Alone 2...lol! I've always wanted to feed birds from my hand and be so close to them, and it happened when I went to Dalian, China of all places. :-)

  54. Sue, when I worked downtown I loved feeding the pigeons that visited Market Square Mall. It was a delight to see how close they'd land to get a few nibbles, but they knew to keep their distance. Great share and memories. Thanks for linking with me and I'm sorry for the slow return visit. Have a good week!
