To answer your question on my blog--yes, there is a beautiful lake near Lake City! I mentioned it in the first paragraph of my blog post. It is Lake Cristobal. We passed it on our drive on our way to Lake City. We did not stop to drive down to it to take photos as it would have been an exit off of the scenic byway and we were really just doing the scenic drive this time as an excursion and we were on a time schedule
While driving on the Silver Thread Scenic Byway we only stopped in the town of Creede to eat lunch, and Lake City to eat dinner and sleep for the night before continuing on the byway to the end. Now that we saw both towns we definitely want to return for a longer stay and see more of them.
Lake Cristobal is the second largest natural lake in Colorado! It is well used for boating and fishing in summer and ice skating and ice fishing in winter.
