A few of the things we found on a recent ramble

One of the nice things about the area I live in is that there are over 60 miles of trails maintained by the county in a variety of settings. Most have a decidedly rural feel, despite being less than 20 miles from Philadelphia. I have fun trying to identify the things we find as we walk along. An app called "Lens" is usually pretty accurate, although horticulturists might disagree with what Lens says we saw yesterday.

A pair of newlyweds? Papa has newly sprouted antlers barely visible in this shot.

Wild grape

Rosa cymosa, a climbing rose variety

Scarlet pimpernel. I'd heard that name but had no idea it was a plant. Learn something every day!

Field bindweed

Dame's rocket

Japanese dogwood

Big trefoil

Common daisy

  7. I'm so happy to always see such cute animals in your photos – in the previous post, Tommy, the sweet one 😻, and now the lovely pair of deer 🥰! I also like the variety of plants. By the way, I also use Google Lens when I'm unsure about plants or certain insects. And the Merlin app for bird calls... I wouldn't have thought there would be so much nature so close to Philly – but I know how exhilarating it is. We live not far from Vienna, and there are always beautiful nature experiences here, too. (But a big city with culture within easy reach doesn't hurt, right? 😉)
All the best from Austria, Traude

  12. Lovely photos of all the flowers. We often get deer in our fields, but they jump in over the hedges and pull the electric fence down which stops the horses from trying to get out.
